Team Architect took the gun in the handicap start race with Gemmell Sails second and Vantage Real Estate third. Gemmell showed why they are defending champions by completing the “twice-round-the-island” course fastest in a time of 1hr 19mins from scratch. Most boats opted for their 3rd rigs with a 15-20knot forecast and the dreaded Moreton Bay chop outside the island.
Challenge, sailed by Laurie Williamson and Brad Madders had an eventful day, starting 10mins before their 24min handicap time and dropping the rig just before the finish. There were also a few swimming around the island, with Harsco Infrastructure and AGAIG testing the water and watching for jellyfish. The AGAIG crew won the miner’s award for the day with a crew around the forestay.
Tomorrow sees the start of the real racing, with one race scheduled for a 1:30pm start.
